Geotargeting
Ad delivery based on the recipient's geographic location, ranging from country down to single postcodes.
Also known as: Geo Targeting, Regional Targeting, Location Based Targeting
Geotargeting controls ad delivery based on location. An ad for a local tradesman runs only in the relevant catchment area, a national advertiser can narrow down to countries or regions. The data comes from IP address, GPS, WLAN location or profile entries in the ad network.
Granularity and data sources
Accuracy varies a lot. At country level the hit rate is close to 100 percent, at city or postcode level it drops sharply. Mobile devices with active location sharing deliver precise positions, desktop users behind VPN or corporate proxies often appear at the gateway location. When targeting regionally, plan a safety buffer.
Typical use cases
Local shops, retail chains, event organisers, delivery services and political campaigns rely heavily on geotargeting. In B2B, providers narrow down by economic regions such as DACH or EU. Language versions can be combined so recipients receive content in their region and language. Geo windows that are too small reduce reach and push click prices up.
Relation to JD Partner and JD Leads
JD Partner supports regional targeting in campaigns so advertisers can narrow audiences by region. JD Leads allows regional selection inside lead funnels so only recipients from relevant postcodes enter a flow. Wastage stays low and lead quality stays high for regional advertisers.
