Unsubscribe Rate

Share of campaign recipients who unsubscribe from the list after receiving a campaign. Key indicator for relevance and list quality.

Also known as: Opt-Out Rate, Abmelderate, Unsubscribe Quota

The unsubscribe rate describes the percentage of recipients who unsubscribe from a list after receiving a campaign. It is one of the most honest metrics in email marketing because it shows when a message does not fit the audience or when sending frequency feels too high.

Healthy values

Typical unsubscribe rates range between 0.1 and 0.5 percent per campaign depending on industry. Values above 1 percent are a clear warning sign. Sustained high unsubscribe rates signal lack of relevance to mailbox providers and can measurably weaken sender reputation.

Common causes of high unsubscribe rates

The most frequent reasons are too high sending frequency, missing segmentation, irrelevant content and unclear expectations already during sign up. If someone signs up for a newsletter about accounting and instead gets travel ads, unsubscribes are guaranteed.

What JD Mail does about it

JD Mail tracks the unsubscribe rate per campaign, per segment and over time. Anomalies are highlighted in the dashboard. Every unsubscribe link runs through a clean one click process that works directly from the email and protects both the recipient experience and the sender reputation.
