Micro Conversion

Small interim step on the way to the main conversion, such as watching a video or clicking a call to action.

Also known as: Soft Conversion, Assist Conversion

A micro conversion is a small interim step that shows a user is moving closer to the main conversion. Examples include watching a video, adding a product to the cart, clicking a call to action or signing up for a newsletter. Many micro conversions add up to macro conversions such as a purchase.

Why micro conversions matter

If you only measure the main conversion, you only see late whether a campaign is working. Micro conversions deliver early signals about whether users even reach the funnel and explore it. That helps spot bottlenecks, for example when many people view a product but few add it to the cart.

How to define them well

It works best to set one or two meaningful micro conversions per funnel step that show real intent. Too many tiny actions create data noise. Common picks include clicks on a product image, completion of the first form fields, scroll depth or time on page beyond a threshold.

Relevance to JD Media

In campaigns run through JD Mail and JD Partner classic micro conversions include banner clicks, landing page views and interactions with embedded forms. These values surface in the reporting of both platforms and help advertisers understand the funnel before the actual final conversion happens on the target page.
