E-Commerce

Electronic trade in goods and services over the internet, from webshops to marketplaces to digital platforms.

Also known as: Electronic Commerce, Online Retail

E-Commerce means selling goods or services through electronic channels. This includes your own webshop, marketplaces like Amazon or eBay, selling through social networks and mobile apps. The model ranges from simple order pages to large international platforms with their own logistics and payment infrastructure.

Which components belong to it

A typical E-Commerce setup consists of a shop system, product database, payment integration, shipping providers, a CRM or ERP for stock and orders and a marketing stack for advertising and customer communication. Legal components like imprint, privacy policy, withdrawal terms and terms of service are added on top. International shops also need multilingual support, multiple currencies and country-specific tax logic.

What matters operationally

Fast loading times, a clean checkout, transparent shipping costs and trusted reviews form the foundation. Mobile optimisation is mandatory, since most traffic arrives from smartphones. Logistics, returns and customer service decide repurchase in the long run. On the data side, end-to-end tracking is needed, otherwise campaigns and product ranges cannot be assessed properly.
