DeFi
Decentralised financial services that run on blockchain protocols without classic banks and offer functions such as lending, swapping or yield.
Also known as: Decentralized Finance, Decentralised Finance
DeFi stands for Decentralized Finance, financial services built on blockchain technology. Instead of banks, brokers or insurers, smart contracts take on the role of the intermediary. The logic sits openly in source code, transactions are publicly traceable and they happen without a central middleman.
How DeFi works technically
Most DeFi applications run on Ethereum or compatible networks. Smart contracts handle lending, token swaps, liquidity pools or insurance products. Instead of a bank branch the user interacts with a wallet and a frontend that calls the smart contract. Network transactions carry fees whose level depends on current load.
Where DeFi meets marketing
In classic marketing DeFi rarely plays a direct role, yet the context can become relevant: crypto projects as advertisers, NFT launches as campaign moments, new payment options in shops. Anyone advertising DeFi products should know the legal rules for financial promotion, because many ad networks restrict or ban these topics. Reputation risk also matters, since the market is shaped by frequent fraud cases.
Practice in the digital ad market
Crypto-related advertisers find suitable audiences in specialised ad networks. For serious players, a clean separation between information, advertising and investment recommendation is essential. Transparent risk disclosures, clear sender information and verified landing pages are mandatory; otherwise both regulators and ad platforms will push back.
