Carousel Ads

Social media advert format that presents multiple images or videos in a swipeable row of cards.

Also known as: Multi Card Ads, Carousel Adverts

Carousel Ads are an advert format that combines multiple cards inside a single placement. Users swipe or click through the row and see one image or video, a headline and an individual destination link per card. Platforms such as Meta, LinkedIn and TikTok all offer the format.

What carousel ads are good for

The format suits product catalogues, multi part stories, before and after comparisons or bite sized tutorials. Each card can carry its own argument or showcase a separate product, which is hard to convey in classic single image creative. Sequential storytelling across multiple cards drives higher dwell time, provided the first card invites the swipe.

What matters in the design

Consistent visual language across all cards holds the format together, while each card still needs its own strong headline. The first card must grab attention, otherwise no one ever sees the rest. A continuous background image spanning several cards can be visually compelling. Card order can often be algorithmically optimised inside the ad account.

Practice in everyday advertising

Advertisers often use carousel ads mid funnel to deepen interest, or bottom funnel with shop catalogue feeds. The click rate per card delivers valuable hints about which product or argument resonates most. These insights can in turn feed downstream email campaigns and let you target recipients more precisely.
