Verizon Media Native Ads

Native ad format from the former Verizon Media advertising network, now continued under Yahoo Advertising.

Also known as: Yahoo Native, Oath Native

Verizon Media Native Ads is the native ad format from the former Verizon Media advertising network, which emerged from the merger of Yahoo and AOL. Following the takeover by Apollo Global Management in 2021, the network operates under the Yahoo Advertising brand. Ads are served in the style of the surrounding content rather than as classic banners.

How the format works

Native ads in this network typically run in news feeds, on Yahoo Finance, in Yahoo News and in partner publications. They display image, headline, source and short teaser and are subtly marked as advertising. Bidding is on cost per thousand or cost per click basis, delivery is steered by interests, demographics and platform context.

Reach and markets

The network reaches several hundred million monthly users worldwide, with focus areas in the United States, the United Kingdom and parts of Asia. In the German market, its importance is significantly smaller than that of Google, Meta and TikTok. Anyone testing the format should check reach per region, since inventory and targeting depth differ strongly from country to country.

In everyday marketing

Yahoo Native suits classic brand and content campaigns where a trusted editorial environment is desired. For pure performance strategies with hard conversion targets, Meta and Google usually deliver more volume in the German market. Anyone using the channel should set separate tracking parameters, otherwise data easily falls into the catch all display advertising bucket and cannot be evaluated cleanly.
