Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Subfield of artificial intelligence that deals with the machine processing of natural language.
Also known as: NLP, Language Processing
Natural Language Processing is a subfield of artificial intelligence that deals with the machine processing of natural language. Typical tasks include translation, text recognition, sentiment analysis, chatbots, automatic summaries and question answering. Modern approaches often rely on large language models trained on huge text corpora.
What NLP delivers technically
Classic tasks include tokenisation, part of speech tagging, named entity recognition, topic classification and vector representations of text. These building blocks help structure large text collections automatically, for example sorting support tickets by topic or flagging emails as spam. Generative models can in addition produce text from prompts.
Where NLP helps in marketing
In marketing NLP models help classify reviews, detect sentiment in comments, generate product copy, personalise content and answer standard requests automatically. Human oversight stays important because models can produce text that sounds convincing but is factually wrong.
Relevance to the JD Media Suite
Inside the JD suite NLP is used for content analysis of send copy, detection of problematic terms in templates and classification of bounce messages. Topic clusters in lists can also be built with NLP methods to write content more precisely for each audience.
