Google Optimization Score
Score from 0 to 100 percent in Google Ads that shows how well an account follows Google's recommendations.
Also known as: Optimisation Score
The Google Optimization Score is an account rating in Google Ads showing how closely an account follows Google's recommendations. 100 percent means all active recommendations are applied. The score is based on statistical patterns and machine learning and is recalculated continuously whenever account data or market conditions change.
What feeds the score
Recommendations range from new keyword suggestions over bid adjustments, extensions, smart bidding strategies through to activating Performance Max. Each recommendation contributes a percentage share. Adopting a recommendation lifts the score immediately. Recommendations deliberately rejected can be marked as not relevant and no longer affect the score.
Critical view and practice
A score near 100 percent does not guarantee strong actual performance. Some recommendations do not fit the strategy, for example because they blend brand and generic traffic or would increase budgets aggressively. Experienced account managers review each recommendation individually and apply only what aligns with the strategy. The score is a guideline, not a target metric.
Context in daily marketing
In day to day marketing, the Optimization Score appears in every Google Ads account and often triggers stakeholder discussions. A Google Ads agency should be able to explain the score and justify which recommendations are sensible and which were deliberately rejected. The account strategy stays focused and the score serves its purpose as guidance, not as a target in itself.
