Domain

Unique name registered in the DNS under which a website or email service is reachable on the internet.

Also known as: Domain Name, Internet Address

A domain is the human-readable name that identifies an address on the internet. Behind it sit IP addresses and DNS records that browsers, email clients or apps use for delivery. Domains consist of several levels, such as subdomain, domain and top level domain.

How a domain is structured

Read from right to left: the top level domain like .com, .de or .io, then the actual domain and optionally a subdomain such as shop. or mail.. Registration happens through accredited registrars that work with the registries of the relevant top level domain. DNS records such as A, AAAA, MX, TXT and CNAME control where requests for the domain are routed.

What a domain does for marketing

The domain is both a shop window and a trust anchor. It shapes how the brand is perceived, influences click rates in search results and mailings and carries SEO signals. For email marketing it is the basis for authentication via SPF, DKIM and DMARC. A clean separation between a marketing domain and a critical service domain reduces risk when reputation problems occur.

Domains in JD Media

JD Mail uses dedicated sending domains and sets the required DNS records such as SPF, DKIM and DMARC for each one. A correctly configured sending domain is the precondition for high delivery rates and a stable sender reputation profile. Anyone running several brands in parallel should consider separate domains so that an issue on one domain does not affect all the others.
