Algorithmic Marketing

A marketing approach where targeting, bidding and audiences are driven by automated models instead of manual setup.

Also known as: Programmatic Marketing, Data Driven Marketing

Algorithmic marketing uses data models to make decisions about targeting, bidding, content and recipients largely automatically. Humans define target values, budgets and guardrails, while the model varies frequency, placement and message in real time. Instead of a few large campaigns there are many small ones, optimised continuously.

How an algorithmic setup works

The model takes inputs such as behaviour signals, conversion values, viewability or weather and returns a bid, an audience or a variant. It keeps learning from results and refines its estimates. To make this work you need clean tracking, clear success metrics and a sufficient amount of data.

What you need to watch in practice

Algorithms are only as good as their data and target function. Optimising on clicks instead of qualified leads delivers many cheap clicks with no value. Models also need human review, for example against bot traffic, wrong incentives or unwanted optimisation on sensitive attributes.

Relevance for JD Mail and JD Partner

JD Mail uses sending data, reach and reactions to adjust send options or frequencies. JD Partner steers ad inventory and bookings based on campaign performance so that strong flows receive more budget and weak ones are scaled down. You set goals and limits, the tool optimises within those bounds.
