Ad Spend

Actually spent budget for advertising activities in a defined period or per channel.

Also known as: Media Spend, Advertising Spend

Ad spend describes the actually spent advertising budget across a defined period, channel or single campaign. Unlike planned budget, ad spend shows real costs and is therefore the reference value for all efficiency metrics like ROAS or ROI.

Which items count as ad spend

In the narrow sense, ad spend covers only direct media costs, that is click prices, view based fees or cost per mille values. In the wider sense, production costs for creatives, agency fees and tool costs are also included. Which view is used depends on the reporting logic.

How to distribute ad spend correctly

A successful ad spend distribution is not just about volume but about efficiency per channel. A channel with high absolute volume can be unprofitable while a smaller channel with high ROAS works far more efficiently. Clean multi channel reportings are the prerequisite to even make such comparisons.

Ad spend tracking in JD Mail and JD Partner

Both platforms capture ad spend at campaign level and put the values against achieved clicks, leads and conversions. So per campaign and per creative you immediately see how efficiently the invested budget actually worked.
