Agentic Commerce

A form of online commerce where autonomous AI agents compare, choose and purchase products on behalf of a user.

Also known as: Agent Commerce, Autonomous Commerce, AI Commerce

Agentic Commerce describes the shift from classic online shopping to autonomous procurement by an AI agent. The user states a goal, such as a specific insurance product, a gift or a recurring household supply, and the agent compares vendors, checks terms and completes the order. The human keeps approval, the research effort disappears.

How the purchase flows

An agent calls product catalogues via APIs, reads reviews, checks availability, compares prices and adds items to the cart. Payment runs through stored payment methods or specialised agent wallets. The platform has to provide structured data, clear terms and a machine readable interface, otherwise it stays invisible to the agent.

What changes for vendors

Visibility moves away from classic search results toward structured product feeds, clean pricing APIs and verifiable conditions. Branding and display ads lose impact because the agent ignores visual cues. What counts is data quality, return policies, delivery times and reviews in a machine readable shape.

Relevance for JD Partner and JD Mail

Advertisers on JD Partner already supply structured campaign data and clear conditions, which is the foundation for agent driven advertising. In JD Mail trigger flows can be designed so that purchases by agents are tracked correctly and answered with the right follow up mails such as order confirmation and shipping status. The focus moves from click optimisation toward clean data structures along the full journey.
