Unique Content

Content that exists in this form on only a single URL and has not been taken or copied from other websites.

Also known as: Original Content

Unique content is content that exists in this form on only a single URL. Search engines rate unique content significantly higher than duplicated text, because duplicates add no value in the search results. Readers also notice repetition quickly and lose trust in the source if the content feels interchangeable.

Difference from duplicate content

Duplicate content arises when the same or nearly identical text is reachable on multiple URLs, for example through accidental mirrors, print views without a canonical reference or direct copies from supplier catalogues. Unique content stands apart by having its own structure, phrasing, image selection and examples. A simple rewrite of other people's text is not enough, since search engines do pattern matching.

How uniqueness can be measured

Online tools check a text against the public corpus of the web and report how many passages are already indexed elsewhere. Sensible target values sit below ten percent recognised overlap, with short quotations and technical terms considered uncritical. In practice, original research and a genuine perspective beat any tool, because only those actually create new value.

In everyday marketing

Before building a knowledge base or a magazine, every page should have a clear topical focus and its own angle. Product descriptions copied from manufacturer texts otherwise land on many sites at the same time and benefit none of them. Anyone writing glossary entries, magazine articles or landing pages themselves builds visibility over time instead of disappearing into the pool of interchangeable content.
