Paid Traffic

Visitors who arrive on a website through paid advertising channels such as search engines, social media or display ads.

Also known as: Paid Visits, Bought Traffic

Paid Traffic refers to all visitors to a website who arrive through paid advertising channels. This includes clicks from Google Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, display networks, affiliate programmes and bought email blasts. Its counterpart is organic traffic from unpaid search results, direct visits or referrals.

Channels and billing

Typical sources are search ads, social ads, display banners, native advertising, influencer cooperations and rented newsletter reach. Billing depends on the channel and is based on clicks, impressions, leads or sales. Paid Traffic can be controlled precisely, since budgets, audiences and scheduling are fully configurable, but the traffic stops as soon as the budget is paused.

Pros and cons

The big advantage of paid traffic is speed, new campaigns deliver visitors on the day they launch. The downside is the ongoing dependency on ad budgets and the risk of rising click prices due to competition. A healthy marketing strategy therefore combines paid traffic with organic growth through SEO, owned newsletters and referral mechanics.

Relevance to JD Mail and JD Partner

If you use paid traffic, you benefit from turning the captured visitors into qualified newsletter subscribers. JD Mail then handles the ongoing dialogue with this audience and reduces the need to buy each individual contact again at a high price. Through JD Partner you can additionally rent reach from compatible lists when your own base is too small for a campaign.
