Google DeepMind

Google DeepMind is Alphabet's AI research and development unit. DeepMind became famous through AlphaGo, which beat the world's best player in the board game Go, and AlphaFold, which predicts the three dimensional structure of proteins. Since 2023 DeepMind has merged with Google Brain into one organisation and develops, among other things, the Gemini models.

Research focus areas

DeepMind works on reinforcement learning, robotics, language models, multimodal systems and applications in science and medicine. AlphaFold delivered structural data for nearly all known proteins and accelerates medical research. Further projects cover material science, mathematics and more efficient algorithms, for instance for sorting routines and matrix multiplication.

Practical availability

Many DeepMind results flow into usable products through Google Cloud and Vertex AI, for example the Gemini models for developers and enterprise customers. Pure research appears in scientific journals, some models are open sourced. Developers integrating AI into their own applications typically use API offerings via Google Cloud rather than working directly with DeepMind.

Context in daily marketing

In day to day marketing, DeepMind acts mostly in the background. Search improvements, translation quality, Gemini features in Google Workspace and ad auto optimisation all benefit from the research. Operational platforms such as JD Mail rely on classic, deterministic methods for sending and reporting, complemented by targeted AI functions for text suggestions or variant generation.
